1. 아일랜드 지역 구분

렌스터(Leinster) : 아일랜드의 동쪽. 

대표적인 도시로는 아일랜드의 수도인 더블린(Dublin)이 있다.

코노트(Connacht) : 아일랜드의 남서쪽. 

대표적인 도시로는 골웨이(Galway)가 있다

먼스터(Munster) : 아일랜드의 남쪽.  

대표적인 도시로는 코크(Cork)와 리머릭 (Limerick), 워터포드(Waterford)가 있다.

얼스터(Ulster) : 아일랜드의 북쪽.

현재 얼스터의 많은 지역이 아일랜드가 아닌 영국의 통치를 받고 있으며
대표적인 도시로는 벨파스트(Belfast), 데리(Derry, London Derry)가 있다.

더블린에서 가까운 한국인에게는 친숙한 관광지 호스(Howth)는

더블린 카운티의 일부이며 브레이(Bray)는 위클로 카운티에 속해있다.

인구수를 기준으로 아일랜드에서 가장 큰 도시는 더블린, 코크, 리머릭, 골웨이 순이다.

8. 아일랜드 지방과 관련된 신화

그는 아일랜드가 다섯 지방으로 나뉘었고,

지방마다 독특한 특징이 있다고 설명했다.

얼스터는 위대한 전사들의 고장,

렌스터는 번영의 고장, 먼스터는 음악과 신비의 고장,

코노트는 지식과 마법의 고장이었다.

중앙에 있는 것은 왕의 도읍이자 모든 지혜가 모여 잇는 미스였다.

그가 나라를 다스리는 동안 아일랜드는 다섯 주로 나뉘었다.

남서쪽의 먼스터, 서쪽의 코노트, 동쪽의 렌스터, 북쪽의 얼스트,

그리고 한복판에는 중앙을 뜻하는 미스가 있었다.

미스주는 역사적으로 아일랜드 왕의 소재지였고,

수도 타라는 미스 주의 경계 안에 자리잡고 있었다.

미스는 중앙이라는 뜻이지만, 실제로는 아일랜드의 한복판에서 동쪽으로 치우쳐 있었다.

미스는 12세기에 영국인들이 침입한 뒤 하나의 주로서는 더 이상 존재하지 않게 되었다.
